Operation Udo Ga Chi: Police Raid Criminal Hideout In Ukpor, Arrest Suspect Linked To 2022 Killing of Policewoman

Police operatives in Anambra State have recorded a major breakthrough under Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping, with the recent raid of a criminal hideout in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of a key suspect involved in past and planned violent crimes.

According to a statement issued by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad and Anti-Kidnapping unit, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the criminal den on Thursday, April 25, 2025. During the operation, one Ewulu Chikwo, 35, a native of Osumoghu Isieke Village in Ihiala LGA, was arrested.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and his gang were plotting to enforce an illegal sit-at-home order in the area on the upcoming Monday. During interrogation, Chikwo reportedly confessed to being a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He also admitted to being part of the armed gang that attacked the Ukpor Divisional Police Headquarters in 2022, resulting in the gruesome murder of a policewoman, Inspector Stella Maris.

In response to the development, the Joint Security Force has intensified surveillance and patrols across Ukpor and adjoining communities to prevent further criminal activities. The Police Command also reaffirmed its commitment to responding swiftly to credible security information, with ongoing efforts to apprehend other fleeing gang members.

The latest success underscores the effectiveness of Operation Udo Ga Chi, a police-led initiative focused on eradicating kidnapping and restoring peace across the state.
