The President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), Nkereweum Onung, alongside Dr. Gani Tarzan Balogun, a member of FTAN’s Board of Trustees, paid a courtesy visit to the Conservator General (CG) of the National Park Service, Dr. Ibrahim Goni, in Abuja on Tuesday.
The visit, marked by camaraderie and discussions on strengthening eco-tourism, underscored the long-standing friendship between the duo and Nigeria’s premier conservation regulatory body. The visitors commended the CG for his intentional progress in conservation efforts, which have earned Nigeria global recognition.
“We are indeed happy to be here and to re-establish our relationship with you and your organization, particularly in ensuring that we harness the eco-tourism values of conservation efforts currently ongoing across the nation,” said Mr. Nkereweum Onung.
Dr. Gani Tarzan Balogun highlighted the importance of water and marine tourism ecosystems, citing the water bodies within Kainji Lake National Park and the newly established exclusive marine park in Bayelsa as areas of interest for FTAN and the Association of Tour Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATON).
In response, Dr. Goni expressed his delight at the visit and emphasized the need for continuous interaction and partnership between the National Park Service and FTAN.
“We are happy to have you back here, particularly seeing Gani Tarzan Balogun, who is a personal friend. We shall work together going forward,” the CG assured.
The visit symbolizes a renewed collaboration aimed at promoting eco-tourism and conservation efforts across Nigeria, with both parties pledging to leverage their partnership for sustainable tourism development.
