The Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU) led by a card carrying member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emeka Diwe and his surrogates had come up with the above bias position on the conduct of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo election. This was contained in a press statement by Barr Umezuo Kingsley.
Their position is contained in a half page advertorial published on page 22 of Daily Sun, of Thursday, February 25th, 2021, and signed by Chief Emeka Diwe and one Hon Gideon Adikwuru.
The organization had criticized the processes adopted by electoral committee for the election without making reference to any tangible point.
This jaundiced position of crisis ridden ASETU was in negation of positions of many reputable and legally constituted bodies who earlier commended the outcome of Ohanaeze Ndigbo election and the emergence of a Diplomat, Prof George Obiozor as President General of the apex, Igbo sociocultural organization.
As a neutral umpire who monitors the activities of Prof George Obiozor’s led Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the action of Chief Diwe and his ASETU is the most myopic and ridiculous of all, since the sociocultural organization successfully held her poll.
In as much as everyone including organizations have the legal right to express their views, it therefore appears that the position of Chief Diwe and his ASETU in the conduct of Ohanaeze Ndigbo election is laced with greed, selfishness and malice.
It is very worrisome that a man of Chief Emeka Diwe’s caliber could allow himself to be used by mischief makers to destroy the only body uniting every Igbo person together. He should have dictated on time that those dragging him and his ASETU into Ohanaeze Ndigbo issues do not have the interest of the Igbo at heart if he were smart.
His decision to condemn an election that was widely reckoned with as the most freest, fairest and credible in the history of Ohanaeze Ndigbo elections is indeed a deservice not only to his Akpulu clan in Ideato North of Imo State, but the entire Igbo race.
Let it be known to Chief Diwe and ASETU that Ohanaeze Ndigbo under Prof Obiozor does not need their permission or acceptance to hit the ground running, since whatever position they may have taken remains a nullity and stands as a minority opinion and as such, has no basis to determine the actions and inactions of the sociocultural organization.
It is a known fact that Chief Emeka Diwe is a politician who flies the membership card of People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He is the leader of PDP in his Ward. The only message to him is to concentrate on the unity of his party and leave Ohanaeze Ndigbo alone, since her President General, Prof Obiozor is neither a politician nor a party consultant like him working to grab power at all cost.
May it be known that Emeka Diwe’s allegation that his ASETU was not carried along in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo election is a ploy to sell a rotten product to the most gullible. Happily, the Igbo are not enticed or intoxicated by mere gossip and lies as one above.
The only advise left for him and his cohorts is to turn a new leaf and support the new leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and drop every selfish idea to use the only sociocultural organization of the Igbo on the altar of politics. He cannot win election by maligning our unity.
