The Ogun II Area Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has said that it generated revenue worth N6.05 billion between October to December 2022.
Addressing Journalists with some stakeholders at the Command in Abeokuta today, the Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu announced this today that within the last 3 months of last year when he took over, said the above figure represents 25.44% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2021.
DC Shuaibu stressed that collaboration with other agencies of government has greatly enhanced productivity of his Command, adding that record shows that practical involvement of agencies, inter agency collaboration, networking, incidence profiling, information gathering/processing and experience shared all helped to achieved this feat by deploying massive intelligence and effective monitoring in our operations” he said.
While noting that the year 2022 was characterised with several challenges in the economic and trade supply chain, he expressed delight that the command was able to make some laudable achievement using technology-driven initiatives to maximise revenue collection, enforcement of anti-smuggling operations, export promotion and synergy with our noble stakeholders in the industry.
A well intentioned effort of charging up the Excise revenue commands of the Customs service nationwide towards improving the more than N1.5 trillion mark revenue target is being boosted as the Ogun 11 command, Abeokuta contributed more than N22.017 billion into government coffers in the year 2022.
In his words: “On assumption of office, I undertook a two-week tour if the Excise factories and free trade zones (FTZ) within the Command’s jurisdiction”
“This is in tandem with our commitment to enhance collaboration among the different stakeholders in the supply chains, and subsequently improve our performance and operational relationship”
The Controller further noted that the last quarter of last year witnessed the highest revenue generation as the index has been rising in a geometric progression.
On the revenue generated, he said,
“The Command generated a total revenue of six billion, four
Hundred and ninety-two million, five hundred and ten thousand, six hundred and thirty-one naira, thirty-two kobo – N6,492,510,631.32 during the period under review which is 25.44% increase over same period of 2021”
“We achieve this feat by deploying massive intelligence and effective monitoring in our operations.”
Giving the breakdown of the total revenue collection for the year, Shuaibu informed that while N5,261,874.355.63 was generated first quarter, January – March 2022; N5,261,874.355.63 for second quarter, April – June; N4.339,081,812.74 third quarter, July – September; N5,923,776,286.63; while the command generated N6,492,510,631.32 for last quarter, October – December, 2022.
He stated that with the operation now intelligence-driven, payment of Excise duties are ensured, while reducing the incidence of defaulting.
With a workforce of 104, the Area Controller stated that his officers have shown seriousness to duty, adding that, though he has not juggled officers’ positions since he came on board, what they need is effective leadership to achieve the Service’s mandate.
While soliciting the co-operation of various factories for their prompt payment of appropriate Excise duty and other charges, he appreciated the compliant traders and encouraged them to do more in discharging their respective responsibilities.
The CAC used the opportunity to once again thank the Comptroller General of Customs, Col Ibrahim Hammed Ali (Rtd) CFR and the management team for giving him the opportunity to serve in his present capacity as CAC Ogun 2, and for their unflinching support always.
‘My officers and men are also commended for a job well done, not leaving out critical stakeholders for their continuous collaborative efforts and synergy with the service while carrying out their statutory mandate in Ogun State.
