The National Union of Gaming and Lottery Workers (NUGLOW) has announced a significant lineup of events aimed at addressing the needs and welfare of Nigeria’s gaming and lottery sector workforce. The upcoming Press Conference, scheduled for Monday, November 18, 2024, will set the stage for the National Stakeholders Summit on Saturday, November 23, 2024. These events, open to both in-person and virtual participation, promise to bring together key players from across the industry to discuss pressing issues, challenges, and opportunities.
Scheduled to take place at 12:00 PM at the National Secretariat on the 3rd Floor of King’s Deck, Alternative Road, Off Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos, the November 18 Press Conference will outline NUGLOW’s vision for advancing workers’ rights. This gathering is expected to spotlight the union’s commitment to policy reforms that will benefit employees throughout the gaming sector, emphasizing collaboration as essential for sustainable industry growth.
Following this, the November 23 National Stakeholders Summit, to be held at NUEE House on Herbert Macaulay Road in Yaba, Lagos, will bring together representatives from gaming companies, regulatory bodies, human resource departments, and administrative leaders. Scheduled to begin at noon, the summit will focus on developing policy recommendations aimed at enhancing job security, healthcare, pensions, and protections against workplace discrimination. Participation is free, but attendees must register beforehand.
Central topics of discussion will include defining NUGLOW’s role in fostering worker welfare, establishing standards for workplace security and benefits, and examining the gaming industry’s potential for positive social impact. With the national focus on economic empowerment, the union aims to position itself as a critical advocate for aligning gaming and lottery practices with Nigeria’s broader goals for worker rights and social equity.
NUGLOW’s leadership also noted that a new leadership team is anticipated to emerge from its National Delegates Conference in mid-December, positioning the union to further expand its advocacy efforts and support for industry employees.
In anticipation of these events, Comrade David Omaghomi, National Treasurer and Chairman of the Summit Committee, stated, “NUGLOW stands as the foremost union for gaming and lottery workers in Nigeria. As we enter a new phase of growth, we invite all stakeholders and workers to join us in this transformative journey for a fairer, more sustainable industry.”
