The people of Nteje have been called upon to stay vigilant, focused, and united as the community faces challenges surrounding the ongoing Igweship tussle. In an open letter to Ndi Nteje, Dr. Emmanuel Nweke Okafor, a respected member of the community and academic, emphasized the need for strength and solidarity in defending the rights and well-being of Nteje against potential manipulation or division.
Dr. Okafor expressed concern over the handling of the Igweship matter, criticizing the perceived lack of fairness and transparency in the process. He noted that the Igweship issue, instead of fostering unity, is being manipulated in ways that could escalate conflicts within the community.
Reflecting on the historical context, Dr. Okafor stated that Nteje’s Igweship has traditionally followed a rotational system. He highlighted that the first Igwe from Ikenga village, Igwe Abogu II, served as a precedent for rotational leadership. The current Igwe, Igwe Nnebo (Abogu III), represents the rightful transition of leadership to Ifite Nteje, in accordance with the principles of equity and justice.
Dr. Okafor urged Ndi Nteje to resist any attempts to undermine the rotation system, emphasizing that it is a cornerstone of fairness and unity in the community. “The Igweship tussle should never have been a source of division, but rather an opportunity to build a stronger Nteje, rooted in equity and fairness for all,” he said.
He further called on all stakeholders to prioritize the values of peace, justice, and unity that have been upheld by Nteje’s ancestors. “Our strength lies not in allowing ourselves to be divided, but in supporting one another and upholding the values that our ancestors worked so hard to establish,” he added.
Dr. Okafor also encouraged the community to remain vigilant against falsehoods and manipulation, urging Ndi Nteje to focus on a shared vision for the prosperity of their people.
As the Igweship matter continues to unfold, Dr. Okafor’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of unity, transparency, and fairness in addressing sensitive issues within the community.
He concluded his message by reaffirming his commitment to the well-being of Nteje and encouraging members of the community to remain steadfast in their pursuit of peace and progress.
