Nteje Community Prepares For Transition As Ikenga Nteje Set To Produce Next NDU President General

The people of Ikenga Nteje have been urged to begin deliberations on the selection of the next President General (PG) of the Nteje Development Union (NDU) as the tenure of the current administration nears its conclusion. This call was made in an open letter by Dr. Emmanuel Nweke Okafor, a notable community member, as preparations intensify for the December transition.

Highlighting the provisions of the NDU constitution, Dr. Okafor emphasized that the incumbent PG has confirmed he will not seek re-election, as the constitution does not allow for a second term. He called on the people of Ikenga Nteje to seize this opportunity and act decisively in nominating a capable leader to take the reins of the union.

Over the years, Ezi Nteje has provided PGs who have contributed to the community, including High Chief Afunze, who served for many years; Chidi Obika, who held the position briefly as an appointee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); and Dr. Nnamdi Ilodiuba, who served a three-year tenure as a democratically elected PG. Now, the mantle of leadership is expected to shift to Ikenga Nteje, and Dr. Okafor urged the community to remain united and resist any attempts at intimidation or division during this critical period.

In addition to selecting a new PG, Dr. Okafor stressed the need to identify a competent Secretary from Ifite Nteje. He noted that the effectiveness of the union’s leadership relies on a strong and reliable executive team.

Outlining a vision for the future of Nteje, he called on the incoming PG to prioritize key development projects in collaboration with the Igwe Nteje. These include establishing a bank and a hospital in the community, constructing a proper Civic Center, and returning the Eke-Igwe Nteje market to the management of Nteje women. He emphasized the importance of addressing these issues through both practical and spiritual approaches to ensure comprehensive progress.

Dr. Okafor’s message serves as a rallying call for unity and active participation in shaping Nteje’s future. He concluded by reminding the people that they are all stakeholders in the affairs of the community and must work together for its growth and prosperity.

As the December deadline approaches, the Nteje community faces an opportunity to demonstrate cohesion and shared purpose in navigating this pivotal transition.
