In an unyielding commitment to justice, crime prevention, and citizen safety, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has achieved notable successes in the past two weeks, culminating in the arrest of 254 suspects, rescue of 35 victims, and recovery of 44 arms and 477 rounds of ammunition.
Among the arrested suspects are 92 armed robbers, 153 kidnappers, and 9 suspected cultists. Seven stolen vehicles were recovered during the operations. These efforts, driven by targeted and relentless actions, aim to combat crime and criminality nationwide, ensuring a more secure and peaceful Nigeria.
In a significant operation, the Force Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) targeted a trans-border gunrunning syndicate operating in Plateau state. The operatives apprehended ten suspects, including a supplier based in Cross River State, responsible for providing AK47 rifles, ammunition, and rocket launchers to rebels in neighboring countries. A rifle fabrication factory in Kuru, Jos, Plateau state was also discovered, leading to the recovery of 2 AK-47 rifles, 9 automatic pistols, and 1,800 rounds of live ammunition.
Another operation in Sutai, Bali LGA of Taraba State resulted in the arrest of two suspects involved in arms dealing and kidnapping. Interrogation revealed their connection to a syndicate specializing in gunrunning and cattle rustling.
The FCT Special Intervention Squad apprehended a suspect from Audi village involved in a kidnapping gang of over 20 members. The suspect confessed to participating in two kidnapping operations, holding victims for 21 days, and collecting a ransom of 1.1 million. The suspect also disclosed the gang’s involvement in the murder of Ardo Shaibu and his family in Kaduna State.
