The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force interrogated popular Nollywood actor, Ibrahim Yekinni, known as Itele, on Tuesday over allegations of assault and threats to life. The accusations come from Idowu Akintobi, the landlord of the house where Yekinni resides.

Akintobi, who is currently based abroad, filed a petition accusing Itele of inflicting bodily harm on his wife, Serah Akintobi, and their security guard, Mr. Nelson Okon. According to the petition, Yekinni was invited by the police command and was questioned from morning until the time of filing this report.

The petition detailed a history of violent behavior by Yekinni and his wife, Wunmi Yekinni, against Mrs. Akintobi and their security staff. Akintobi claimed that the couple had previously assaulted another security guard, Amusa, nearly to the point of death. The incident was reported to the Ijaiye Ojokoro police station, but Yekinni allegedly resisted arrest and no further action was taken.

“On June 19, 2024, Mrs. Yekinni brutally attacked the newly employed security guard, Mr. Nelson Okon, at about 9:42 PM. She assaulted and wounded him with her car key on the face, and when the landlord’s family intervened, she also battered the landlord’s wife, Mrs. Serah Akintobi, and smashed her phone worth over N250,000,” the petition read.

The petition also noted that the incident led to medical expenses of over N150,000 for Mrs. Akintobi and Mr. Okon, as they were referred to a general hospital for treatment.

Akintobi’s petition called for a thorough and unbiased investigation into the allegations, expressing concerns over the handling of the case by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Dickson Oni, whom he accused of showing bias.

“We are seeking your intervention to save my brother and his family from the hands of this dangerous and wicked popular Nollywood actor who has been threatening to kill them before he vacates their apartment,” the petition stated.

The landlord’s family has charged the Yekinni couple to court, demanding their eviction from the apartment due to their alleged violent behavior and harassment. The family and their legal representatives urge the police to assign the case to an investigative unit that will handle it without fear or favor.

The interrogation of Itele by the Lagos State Police Command marks a significant step in addressing the allegations and ensuring justice for the victims. The outcome of the investigation remains to be seen as the case continues to unfold.
