NNS WEY Unveils Inaugural Sailors’ Home Front Magazine, Bridging Navy & Community

In a pioneering move aimed at strengthening ties between the Nigerian Navy and the public, Nigerian Navy Ship WEY has launched the first edition of SAILORS’ HOME FRONT MAGAZINE.

The magazine highlights NNS WEY’s activities, achievements, and dedication to securing Nigeria’s maritime domain, symbolizing the Base’s commitment and service to the nation.

The launch took place at the Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla Multipurpose Hall at NNS WEY Base, with Rear Admiral Michael Gregory Oamen, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, as the Special Guest of Honour.

Rear Admiral Oamen, who officially unveiled the magazine, praised it as a powerful tool for enhancing public awareness of the Navy’s role and for boosting the morale of Navy personnel.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral EI Ogalla, whose leadership emphasizes strength, resilience, and the motivation of Navy personnel.

Commodore Mutairu Mustapha Braimah, Base Commander of NNS WEY, shared his pride in the magazine’s debut, describing it as a narrative of the Base’s history and accomplishments over five decades.

He expressed that while this first edition may only capture a fraction of NNS WEY’s milestones, it sets the stage for future editions to expand on the story of Navy life and service.

Commodore Braimah highlighted that “Sailors’ Home Front” will help bridge the civilian-military divide by offering civilians a glimpse into the daily lives of Navy officers and promoting civilian engagement with the Navy’s mission.

Commodore Braimah also emphasized the magazine’s potential as a platform for both military and civilian contributors.

It will feature diverse perspectives, from personal stories of Navy personnel to community-focused events, while also serving as an avenue for commercial partnerships, making it a valuable resource for information sharing, public discourse, and outreach.

As the Navy continues its commitment to transparency and national pride, “Sailors’ Home Front” is expected to evolve into a powerful medium for fostering civilian-military relations, enriching Nigeria’s maritime security narrative, and inspiring broader public support for the Navy’s work.
