NNPP Urges Media And INEC To Uphold Party Constitution

In a special appeal to media houses and practitioners, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has called for respect for its constitution and the will of its members. The NNPP asserts that internal matters should be resolved within the party without interference.

The NNPP emphasizes that INEC’s role is to register, control, and regulate political parties constitutionally, without delving into the internal administration of the parties. The party accuses Senator Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima, and the ousted National Working Committee (NWC) of violating the NNPP constitution, leading to their expulsion.

The NNPP highlights the unceremonious exit of prominent members like Prof Alkali, Prof Angwe Samuel, and Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, suggesting internal turmoil. It alleges undemocratic practices, corruption, high-handedness, and a lack of transparency by the expelled NWC members.

The NNPP’s Board of Trustees took decisive action by expelling the accused members, a decision later ratified by the General Assembly. This action has been duly communicated to INEC, which acknowledged receipt and pledged to update its records.

However, the NNPP expresses concern that INEC continues to engage with the expelled members, despite the matter being before a Federal High Court. The party urges INEC to act as a neutral body, respecting the internal affairs of political parties and inviting both parties to ascertain facts before making decisions.

The NNPP asserts that there is no faction within the party and provides the names of its new principal officers. Dr. Gilbert Agbo Major serves as the National Chairman, Comrade Ogini Samuel as the Secretary-General, and Dr. TKO Aluko as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Aniebonam Boniface Okechukwu is recognized as the Founder and Spiritual Leader of the Party, while Governor Abbah Yusuf of Kano State is acknowledged as the Leader of the Party. The NNPP hopes for the Independent Political Parties Advisory Council (IPAC) to operate independently without influence from INEC, promoting genuine democracy in Nigeria.
