NIWA MD Commends Management As New Board Chairman Visits Abuja Liaison Office

The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, has praised the efforts of his management team in advancing the Inland Waterways Transportation sub-sector. He made this remark during a familiarization visit by the newly appointed Board Chairman, Hon. Musa Sarkin-Adar, at NIWA’s Abuja liaison office.

Oyebamiji acknowledged the dedication and expertise of his team, stating that their collective efforts have been instrumental in the sector’s development. “I am blessed with an experienced and dedicated team, and I cannot take the glory alone,” he said.

In response, Hon. Sarkin-Adar appreciated the MD for the warm reception and urged the Authority to intensify efforts in expanding water transportation across more states. He emphasized the importance of private sector involvement, noting that the government alone cannot drive the sector’s development.

The Board Chairman also called for the phasing out of wooden boats to enhance safety and reduce accidents on the nation’s waterways. He encouraged the MD and his team to work towards leaving a lasting legacy that would be remembered in the industry.

The visit was attended by all management staff of NIWA, underscoring the significance of the engagement in shaping the future of inland water transportation in Nigeria.
