The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, made history on Friday, October 4, by decorating the highest number of newly promoted Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs) and Comptrollers of Immigration Service (CIS) in the Service’s history. The ceremony took place at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, where 15 ACGs and 95 CIS officers were officially promoted.

In her address, the CGIS praised the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Service Board (CDCFIB), Ja’afaru Ahmed, ficmc, OFR, for their instrumental roles in facilitating what she described as an “unprecedented” promotion exercise. According to Nandap, the mass promotions mark the end of stagnation within the Service, signaling a new era of smoother career progression and institutional growth.

“The promotion of 13,977 officers is a testament to the NIS’s commitment to the welfare, capacity building, and career development of its workforce,” Nandap said. Of these, 6,697 officers were promoted across the ranks from Assistant Superintendents of Immigration (ASI) to ACGs, while 7,280 officers were promoted from the ranks of Immigration Assistants (IAs) to Inspectors of Immigration (II). Additionally, five officers received special promotions for their exceptional contributions to the progress of the Service.

The Secretary of the CDCFIB, Ja’afaru Ahmed, commended the promotion initiative, emphasizing the importance of the officers adhering to best practices in the discharge of their duties. He further charged the newly promoted officers to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and dedication in their roles.

The Comptroller General reiterated her unwavering commitment to repositioning the NIS to meet emerging challenges in border security and migration management. She urged all officers and personnel to uphold integrity, dedication, and professionalism in the performance of their duties.

The promotion exercise, described as a “massive harvest” by the CGIS, is seen as a significant boost to the morale and operational efficiency of the NIS as it tackles the evolving demands of national and regional security.
