The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting maritime safety, security, and environmental protection in West and Central Africa. Speaking at the 14th Port State Control Committee meeting of the Abuja Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a senior NIMASA representative emphasized the agency’s dedication to working closely with regional partners to uphold international maritime standards.
During the meeting, NIMASA highlighted the importance of ensuring that ships operating within the sub-region meet global safety, security, and environmental requirements. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that ships in West and Central Africa adhere to international standards,” the official stated.
NIMASA further expressed its intention to collaborate with the Abuja MoU in addressing maritime challenges and enhancing regional capacity. The agency is committed to strengthening cooperation across the region to improve maritime safety and security, helping to ensure a safer and more sustainable maritime environment.
The Abuja MoU, an agreement between West and Central African nations, focuses on regional efforts to enforce international maritime regulations and promote safe shipping practices in the region. The 14th Port State Control Committee meeting marks a significant milestone in advancing these shared goals.
