The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, has reiterated the agency’s dedication to issuing suitable certifications to qualified personnel of the Nigerian Navy who undergo necessary training at the Nigerian Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC).
During a visit by a NAVTRAC delegation led by Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu, the Flag Officer Commanding, Jamoh emphasized the importance of collaboration to enhance capacity development and professionalism in accordance with global best practices.
He encouraged NAVTRAC to address any identified gaps in order to align the training and curriculum of the Naval Training Command with international maritime professional institutes, particularly with respect to the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW).
Jamoh stressed the significance of ongoing collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and NIMASA, underscoring its importance for the nation and our continuous efforts to combat piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
