Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has expressed profound sorrow over the sudden death of Architect Ferdinand Agu, the former Director General of the defunct National Maritime Authority (NMA).
In a heartfelt statement released this weekend, Dr. Mobereola described Agu’s passing as a significant loss not only to NIMASA but to the entire Nigerian maritime community. He highlighted the remarkable impact Agu had within a brief interaction during his first stakeholder engagement just a month ago.
“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Arc. Ferdinand Agu, a former Director General of NMA. He left an indelible impression on me within the short time we shared during my first stakeholder engagement just last month. I had hoped to engage him more often, to tap into his wealth of experience for the collective interest of every Nigerian. Alas, death has denied us this privilege. Agu’s legacy of dedication and excellence will continue to inspire us all. We will miss his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication to improving our maritime industry. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace,” Mobereola stated.
Agu’s tenure at the NMA was marked by his commitment to the advancement of Nigeria’s maritime sector, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to the industry. His expertise and leadership were highly respected, making his sudden departure a notable loss to those who knew and worked with him.
Osagie Edward, FNIPR, the Assistant Director and Head of Public Relations at NIMASA, conveyed the agency’s collective grief and extended condolences to Agu’s family. Edward emphasized the profound impact of Agu’s work and the void his passing has created within the maritime sector.
