Nigerian Navy Holds Free Medical Outreach In Lagos As Part of 69th Anniversary Celebration

As part of activities marking the 69th anniversary of its formation, the Nigerian Navy has launched a free medical outreach in Victoria Island, Lagos, offering essential healthcare services to hundreds of beneficiaries.

The outreach, tagged *“Medical Rhapsody,”* is one of the key programs lined up for the annual Navy Week celebration. Speaking at the venue, Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard Lagos, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Shehu explained that the initiative reflects the Chief of Naval Staff’s directive to foster stronger relationships with host communities and provide humanitarian support to the public.

“This medical outreach is in line with the Chief of Naval Staff’s mission to connect with the public, build goodwill, and promote strong community ties,” he said. “Services provided include basic blood tests, eye examinations, blood pressure checks, provision of eyeglasses, and free medications. Where necessary, patients are referred for further treatment.”

Shehu emphasized that the outreach is completely free and is targeted particularly at low-income earners working in and around Victoria Island, many of whom are traders and service providers who may not have access to regular medical care.

“While Victoria Island is known as an upscale area, many of those benefiting from this outreach are not residents but workers who support businesses and residents in this environment. This effort ensures that everyone, regardless of status, has access to quality healthcare,” Shehu noted.

According to projections, the Navy aims to provide medical services to at least 500 individuals during the outreach. Services on ground include dental care, optometry, general medical consultation, and drug dispensing.

Last year’s outreach was held near the Oniru Palace, and this year’s expansion to another part of Victoria Island further underscores the Navy’s commitment to broadening its impact on civilian communities.

The Nigerian Navy has reiterated its dedication to promoting public welfare alongside its primary responsibility of national security, using initiatives like this to reinforce trust and collaboration between the military and civilians.
