Recall that on August 2, 2022, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PROSPERITY saved two Ghanaian fishermen who were stranded in the water while patrolling 10 nautical miles to the northeast of Dangote Quays in Ibeju, Lekki, Lagos.
This was stated in a news release given to Hybrid News and signed by Commander Edward Yeibo, Western Naval Command’s information officer.
The males were 4 in number, but regrettably, 2 of them had perished before NNS PROSPERITY arrived on the site, according to further research.
Francis Cudjoe and John Qualcoo, the two men who had been saved, were later transported to NNS BEECROFT at Naval Base Apapa, where they received medical care.
“The 2 saved Ghanaian fisherman were turned over to the Ghana Consulate in Lagos today, August 8, 2022, by NNS BEECROFT”
The Commander Naval Base BEECROFT, Commodore Malami Haruna, took the opportunity to express his condolences to the Ghanaian community for the loss of the other two fishermen and to reiterate the necessity for seafarers to always implement all safety measures, including the use of life jackets within the maritime domain.
He also emphasized the Nigerian Navy’s dedication to protecting the safety and security of all seafarers operating inside Nigeria’s maritime boundaries.
