The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Istifanus Albara, has reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s (NN) commitment to prioritizing the training of its personnel to meet contemporary needs. This assurance was given during the Combined Graduation Ceremony of First Quarter courses for Undertraining Ratings of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) QUORRA, held on Friday, June 28, 2024.
Represented by the Chief Staff Officer of Naval Doctrine Command, Rear Admiral Bello Katagum, Albara highlighted the significance of the recently launched International Maritime Institute of Nigeria. He emphasized that it would soon lead to global recognition of certificates obtained from the NN’s premier Seamanship School. He noted that this development underscores the Chief of the Naval Staff’s commitment to the welfare of personnel both during and after service.
Albara urged the graduates to apply their training diligently upon returning to their various ships and advised them to prepare early for retirement to avoid being caught unprepared.
The Commandant of NNS QUORRA, Commodore Benjamin Onalo, congratulated the graduates for their success in completing their courses. He assured them that efforts were underway to enhance the infrastructure of the institution to create a more conducive learning environment.
Onalo expressed gratitude to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, for his continued support and guidance, which have been crucial to the school’s administration. He encouraged the graduating ratings to remain loyal to the service and to be proud ambassadors of NNS QUORRA.
The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates and awards to students who excelled academically. A total of 494 student ratings graduated from various courses. The event was attended by several notable figures, including Fleet Commander Western Fleet, Commodore AO Ogunleye; Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore RT Oladejo; Commander Deep Blue Project, Commodore OA Akinbami; Commanding Officer NNS KADA, Navy Captain A Zidon; as well as other senior officers and family members of the graduating ratings.
