In a heroic act of valor, soldiers from the Nigerian Army (NA), operating under the 81 Division NA, have successfully thwarted a suicide attempt by Mrs. Francesca Spark, who had plunged into the Lagos Lagoon near the 81 Division Officers’ Mess in Marina, Lagos, in a desperate bid to take her own life.
The quick and decisive response of the troops from the 65 Battalion NA, stationed at the Officers’ Mess, played a crucial role in saving Mrs. Spark’s life. The soldiers, upon spotting Mrs. Spark, utilized their military skills and ingenuity to rescue her from the perilous situation. After the rescue, she received immediate first aid and stabilization from the battalion’s medical team.
Following the successful rescue, the family of Mrs. Francesca Spark was promptly contacted, and she was handed over to her husband, Mr. Spark Oghene Ovie, who resides in Awoyaya, Lagos.
Major General Muhammed Takuti Usman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division NA, commended the soldiers for their vigilance, resourcefulness, courage, and gallantry. He expressed his satisfaction that the soldiers effectively applied their training in disaster management to a critical situation that could have resulted in the loss of a fellow citizen’s life.
Maj Gen Usman emphasized that such operations are a part of military duties beyond combat scenarios and are essential during emergencies or natural disasters. He further affirmed that the troops have received extensive training to provide support to leading agencies in emergency situations.
The GOC reiterated the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to the protection of residents and their properties, even during times of crisis and emergencies.
