The Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), Maj Gen TB Ugiagbe, has lauded the Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS) for its outstanding contributions to academic and infrastructural development. Represented by the Commander of the 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Brig Gen HG Hassan, the commendation was delivered on January 25, 2025, during the West African Social Activities (WASA) celebration held at Tego Barracks, Apapa, Lagos.
In his remarks, the CMI (A) praised the leadership of the NAIS Commandant, Brig Gen KN Nwoko, for transforming the school into a premier institution for intelligence training. He noted that under Brig Gen Nwoko’s leadership, NAIS successfully fulfilled all Army Headquarters (AHQ) training directives for 2024. Key achievements included a comprehensive curriculum review, upgraded infrastructure, improved training aids, and a focus on practical technical intelligence training.
The CMI (A) also highlighted other significant initiatives, such as the introduction of driving lessons, night training, tours to security agencies, and the procurement of modern equipment. Additionally, he expressed appreciation for the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen OO Oluyede, for his steadfast support to NAIS and the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC).
In his welcome address, Brig Gen Nwoko thanked the Special Guest of Honour, senior officers, retired personnel, and other distinguished guests for their presence. He emphasized the importance of WASA in fostering camaraderie and harmony among officers, soldiers, and their families.
Brig Gen Nwoko provided a detailed account of NAIS’s achievements in 2024, including progress toward relocating the school to Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, and advancements in technical and computer laboratories. Other milestones included the installation of solar inverters, enhancement of language training, introduction of Artificial Intelligence training, and successful training tours to strategic security agencies. NAIS also improved its sporting activities, incorporated smart boards in classrooms, enhanced telephone battle exercises, and expanded psychological and battlefield intelligence training.
The Commandant expressed gratitude to the COAS and the CMI (A) for their unwavering support, which he noted aligns with the COAS’s philosophy of improving staff welfare and operational excellence.
The event attracted notable guests, including representatives from the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Commandant Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration, Nigerian Army School of Signals, Commander Command Finance Office, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries.
Cultural displays, comedy performances, and contests such as rifle stripping and tug-of-war added color to the celebration. Awards were presented to deserving soldiers, and gifts were given to the Special Guest of Honour and other dignitaries. The evening concluded with the beating of the retreat and a bonfire ceremony.
