In a significant move to bolster their academic and professional development, students from the Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS) embarked on a local study tour to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). The visit aimed to familiarize the students with NIMASA’s roles and responsibilities in tackling contemporary security challenges, with a particular focus on the Deep Blue Project and other security imperatives.
Led by the Acting Commandant of NAIS, Brigadier General Kingsley Nwoko, the group comprised young officers, counterintelligence officers, and senior non-commissioned officers. Upon arrival, they were warmly received by Mr. Heakey Dimowo, Director of Marine and Environmental Management at NIMASA, who provided valuable insights into the agency’s statutory responsibilities and its contributions to maritime safety.
The students engaged in a series of informative lectures covering topics such as NIMASA’s responsibilities, maritime safety protocols, and an overview of the C4I Centre of the Deep Blue Project. These sessions broadened the students’ understanding of intelligence capacity and highlighted potential areas for collaboration between NIMASA and the Nigerian Army in addressing security challenges.
Mr. Heakey Dimowo emphasized the importance of strengthening the relationship between NIMASA and the Nigerian Army. He commended Brigadier General Nwoko for organizing the study visit, recognizing the mutual benefits of collaboration between the two entities.
Brigadier General Nwoko underscored the academic significance of the tour, aligning it with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision of transforming the Nigerian Army into a highly skilled and motivated force. The event concluded with a tour of NIMASA’s facilities, the exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs, symbolizing the strengthened partnership between the two organizations.
The study tour proved to be a valuable learning experience for the NAIS students, equipping them with practical knowledge and insights that will contribute to their future roles in safeguarding national security. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in addressing complex security challenges, setting a positive precedent for future engagements between the Nigerian Army and key stakeholders in the security sector.
