Nigerian Army Commemorates Army Day 2023 with Public Speaking Engagement in Lagos

In honor of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2023 in the 81 Division Area of Responsibility, a Public Speaking Engagement was organized to raise awareness among secondary school students about the Nigerian Army’s composition and its role as a symbol of national unity, integration, and development, as outlined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This engagement, held on July 3, 2023, at the Baptist Academy in Obanikoro, Lagos, served as a platform to enlighten participants about the various career opportunities available within the Nigerian Army.

Students from Baptist Boys Academy, Baptist Girls Academy, Command Day Secondary School Ikeja, and Command Day Secondary School Ojo were selected to take part in this event.

In his speech at the seminar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Ajunwa represented by the Commandant, Command Day Secondary School (CDSS) Ikeja, Lieutenant Colonel CB Obida said “the Nigerian Army as the oldest organization in the country has been saddled with the responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He motivated the participants to enlist in the Army with the dual purpose of safeguarding the territorial integrity of their homeland and pursuing their personal life goals.

He outlined numerous advantages of joining the NA, including job security, opportunities for professional advancement, financial stability, access to quality healthcare, and additional benefits such as travel, housing, and educational opportunities.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Baptist Academy, Deacon Gbenga Abodunrin, the Principal, extended his appreciation to the NA for organizing the program and selecting their school as the ideal venue for the event. He encouraged the students to seize the opportunity presented to them.

The NADCEL 2023 edition has been dedicated to commemorating the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the NA.

Notable highlights of the event comprised a quiz competition between students from CDSS Ikeja and those from the Baptist Academy, the presentation of awards and souvenirs, and the capturing of group photographs.
