As part of the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the Logistics Command in Ikeja organized a one-day medical outreach for the Shogunle community. This initiative underscores the NAF’s dedication to not only protecting the nation’s airspace but also enhancing the well-being of Nigerians, particularly those in vulnerable communities.
Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Yaro Abdullahi, Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, emphasized the significance of the event, highlighting the NAF’s commitment to providing health care and humanitarian services. The medical outreach offered a range of services including health education and counseling, laboratory screenings, vision tests with free prescription glasses, dental services, minor surgeries, and free medications.
During the launch of the outreach, AVM Abdullahi reassured the community of NAF’s ongoing commitment to health care access and other humanitarian efforts for host communities and internally displaced persons nationwide. He also conveyed the dedication of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, to the welfare of host community members while fulfilling NAF’s constitutional duties of national defense.
Group Captain M. Muhammad, Commander of the 661 NAF Hospital Ikeja, reiterated that the hospital remains available to the community for health services. He advised residents to adopt healthy lifestyle modifications involving diet, exercise, and rest, and to avoid self-medication in favor of professional medical advice.
High Chief Rafiu Ajisegiri, the high chief of Shogunle Community, praised NAF’s humanitarian efforts, noting that the access to essential medical care provided by the Air Force would address immediate health needs and strengthen the relationship between the NAF and the civilian population.
Representing the Chairman of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Oloyede, Chief of Staff Comrade Leke Banjoko, along with other beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the free healthcare services. They expressed hope for continued collaboration between the community and the Nigerian Air Force.
The outreach was a collaborative effort between the Logistics Command and the 661 Nigerian Air Force Hospital, Ikeja, further demonstrating NAF’s holistic approach to community engagement and support.
