NIGERIA@61: Ekwunife Congratulates Nigerians, Calls For Prayers, Peace And Improved Leadership


The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, has congratulated Nigerians as the country celebrates its 61st anniversary. She prayed that the surge of patriotism, pride and nation-building should continually be etched in the hearts of Nigerians. This was disclosed in a press statement by Mr. Kingsley Ubani, SA Media to Senator Uche Ekwunife.

In a statement on Friday, Ekwunife stated that October 1, 1960 represented a watershed moment in the nation’s history, adding that in spite of the challenges, setbacks and differences in faith and tribe, Nigerians should collectively celebrate the strides the country has made. The Senator encouraged citizens to remain patient and proud of the country, and do all they could to make the country flourish.

While paying glowing tributes to the nation’s founding fathers, Senator Ekwunife urged Nigerians to remain motivated by the sacrifices and struggles made for the freedom of our great nation, stressing that they should contribute their quota by striving for prosperity and betterment of the country. She encouraged Nigerians to be steadfast in prayers, stating that with peace and unity the country would actualize its vision and potential.

Ekwunife noted that government at all levels should brace up to the task of governance and stem the tide of rising unemployment rate in the country. She stressed that there is an urgent need to diversify the economy and invest substantially in Agriculture, Science, Technology and Innovation.

On the worrisome security challenges in the country, the Chairman Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation urged the Federal and State Governments as well as security agencies to rise to the occasion and surmount the challenges, adding that the primary responsibility of every responsible government is protection of lives and property. The Senator stressed the urgent need to strengthen intelligence gathering, equipment, security training and collaboration with local vigilantes and communities aimed at disrupting future attacks.

Ekwunife condemned the incessant killings particularly in the South East, noting that the situation requires critical stakeholders to work together to restore lasting peace and order in the region. “Each of us has a responsibility to protect our immediate environment by reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate quarters”, She added.

The celebrated lawmaker also used the opportunity to reassure her constituents of her commitment towards providing quality representation, adding that she would continue to be a strong voice on the floor of the Senate as well as not relent in attracting dividends of democracy to the people. She further advised everyone to embrace positive values that would strengthen our families, communities and our country at large.

“On behalf of the good people of Anambra Central Senatorial District, I wish Ndi Anambra and Nigerians a happy Independence Day celebration, even as I express optimism that our country will surmount its challenges and transform to a nation where all citizens, irrespective of tribe, ethnicity or religion would be proud to call their own”, the ranking lawmaker concluded.
