Nigerian Universities have entered into partnership with the Nigeria Police Force through its community driven program and Public Relations Tool known as Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices {POCACOV}, to fight Cultism and drug abuse.
To this end, the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) conducted an Advocacy, Awareness creation/sensitization, Reorientation and mentoring programmes at the auditorium of the Imo State University (IMSU) Owerri for the newly admitted students and others.
During the occassion, the National Coordinator Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) CSP Ebere Amaraizu spoke on the dangers and consequences of belonging to cult groups and other criminal gang and pointing out that such is capable of shutting them off from realizing their dreams and also becoming a champion and warned them to remain focus and look at the objective of their gaining admission and avoiding bad friends and influence to avoid distractions.
He also used the occasion to inform and educate them on the readiness and many measures by the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Usman Alkali Baba towards enhancing and improving public safety, security and the overall peace in our community and our schools/colleges of education in line with the community oriented policing tenets.
In his Remarks, Professor Oko Okoro the Dean Student Affairs of the Imo State University Owerri and one of the organizers of the event, appreciated the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in coming up with an Advocacy program (POCACOV) which according him will do will help to impact on Nigerian Children and for a greater society.
In a related development, POCACOV Team engaged with students of the Department of Public Administration at the auditorium of the Faculty of management Sciences of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Enugu on 2/8/2021 during which students were also reminded on the consequences of Cultism, Substance and Drug Abuse and Other vices and the need to look at their objective of gaining admission.
This was made known by the National Coordinator POCACOV CSP Ebere Amaraizu during the students engagement program to sensitize them on the dangers of belonging to Secret Cults as well as consequences and the need to SAY NO to them in order to achieve their desired goal as well as becoming champions and pointing out that peer pressures and lack of positive vision amongst others are capable of pushing them into negative coping skills and as a result get involved into cultism, substance Abuse and other vices hence the ruining of their future. Students were also reminded on the subject matter “What do you want to do or become in future?.
The Vice chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Prof Charles Eze while welcoming the National Coordinator POCACOV and Team, commending the Nigeria Police Force on POCACOV which he described as an Advocacy program on time and from right direction and pointing out that there is need for constant sensitization of young minds as POCACOV is doing and solicited for more partnership to carry out general student sensitization on the date that the university will come up with.
Highlight of the visit was the signing of visitors register by the National Coordinator POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu to reflect the essence of POCACOV Activity at ESUT.
POCACOV is a community driven program and a public Relations Tool working with different stakeholders and galvanizing their support through community oriented policing approaches to reduce the incidences of cultism and other vices as well as saving our young minds from its claws for a greater society and community.
