Nigeria Police Force Dismiss 19 Officers, Demote 24 For Misconduct

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed 19 officers and demoted 24 others over various infractions, including extortion, murder, and loss of firearms. Among those affected are Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aminu Mohammed, who was reduced in rank to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), and CSP Helen Ajuma Negedu, who was demoted to Superintendent of Police (SP).

The disciplinary actions were detailed in a wireless message dated January 23, 2025. According to sources, the dismissed officers will face prosecution in competent courts for their alleged offences.

A Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Coker Olalekan James, who was previously indicted, was cleared of all allegations after the disciplinary committee found no wrongdoing on his part.

The following officers were dismissed and are set for prosecution:

– ASP Ogunmuyiwa Saburi
– ASP Idris Dan-Auta
– CSP Pascal Ugocha
– SP Yakubu Hankuri
– DSP Mohammed S. Jahun
– DSP Ayodele Emmanuel
– DSP Jimmy Ayeni
– DSP Foreman Moses Christopher
– DSP Ejike
– ASP Imoohi Dora
– ASP Lawali Ahmed
– ASP Salisu Ibrahim
– ASP Monday Ahmad Opanda
– ASP Abdullahi Garba
– ASP Thomas Eteng
– ASP Igboke Ransome Ogbonna
– ASP Daini Unyi
– ASP Miracle Ijebu
– ASP Onyekwereh Anthony

Twenty-four officers were demoted across various ranks due to misconduct. Among them:

– SP Bello Aliyu – Reduced to DSP
– SP Ehimen Paul O. – Reduced to DSP
– DSP Haruna Abdulmumini – Reduced to ASP
– ASP Ndikamwu Henry – Reduced to Inspector
– ASP Enimade Oyediran – Reduced to Inspector
– ACP Mohammed Aminu – Reduced to CSP
– CSP Helen Ajuma Negedu – Reduced to SP
– ASP Mohammed Ali – Reduced to Inspector and surcharged for loss of firearms

Several officers received severe reprimands for their conduct, while others were placed under reprimand or issued warning letters. Those affected include ACP Muhamad Auwal Yunusa, ACP Kalat Shamang, CSP Nwanchor Emmanuel, and others.

Additionally, ASP Olalekan Oluwon (rtd) received a letter of warning, while DSP Hauwa Kulu Sulaiman was ordered to refund nine days’ salary. DSP Ayuk Tachen is also to be surcharged for the loss of a firearm.

The disciplinary measures reaffirm the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to accountability and professionalism within its ranks.
