In a series of recent operations aimed at curbing violent crime, the Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector-General of Police Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has recorded remarkable achievements. Since October 1, 2024, the police have arrested a total of 1,246 suspects linked to crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, and unlawful firearm possession, and have seized a substantial cache of firearms and ammunition.
The operations, carried out across various states, led to the arrest of 371 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnapping suspects, 242 murder or homicide suspects, 63 individuals for unlawful firearm possession, 217 rape suspects, and 167 suspected cultists. Alongside these arrests, the Force recovered 210 firearms, 3,172 rounds of various ammunition, and 118 stolen vehicles. Additionally, police efforts resulted in the rescue of 64 kidnapping victims.
One major breakthrough involved the arrest of Jubril Musa, a suspected arms dealer operating in Plateau State. Musa was apprehended with several weapons and rounds of ammunition, including a Makarov pistol and a fabricated firearm. Musa reportedly confessed to supplying arms to bandits and kidnappers active in the region, marking a significant disruption in the supply of illegal weapons fueling violent crime.
Inspector-General Egbetokun commended the police force’s dedication to reducing crime rates and emphasized the importance of intelligence-led policing, community engagement, and tactical operations. He assured the public of the Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining safety across Nigeria, stressing that these initiatives aim to reduce incidents of banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cybercrime.
