Nigeria Police Delegates Participate In IACP 2024 Conference In Boston, Focus on Advancing Policing Expertise

A delegation from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrived in Boston, USA, to participate in the 2024 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference and Exhibition. The event, taking place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 19th to 22nd, has drawn over 16,000 participants from law enforcement agencies worldwide.

The conference, declared open today by IACP President John Letteney, provides attendees with training and courses in various aspects of policing, including forensic investigations, public safety, crisis response, psychological autopsy, election security, and community-based policing.

Nigeria’s delegation, representing the largest African membership within the IACP, was addressed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Abiodun Sylvester Alabi, standing in for the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. DIG Alabi urged the officers to serve as exemplary ambassadors of the NPF and to leverage the learning opportunities at the conference to further enhance their professional skills. Other top Nigerian police officers attending include AIG Jonathan Towuru, AIG Yekini Ayoku, and CP Henry Uche of the NPF-NCCC, alongside former IGP Ogbonaya Onovo.

The NPF has consistently used such international conferences, including those organized by INTERPOL, to improve the capabilities and strategies of its personnel. Nigeria’s strong representation at IACP 2024 underscores the country’s commitment to advancing professional policing through global collaboration and training.

The NPF holds the distinction of having the highest number of IACP members in Africa, contributing to the organization’s 34,000-strong global membership from 174 countries. Further updates on the conference will be provided as the event progresses.
