The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of former police officers involved in the hijacking of a DAF SF Truck carrying 40,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) along the Ohodo-Opi Road in Igbo-Etiti LGA, Enugu State, on May 29, 2024. In a press release issued on July 7, 2024, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, identified the suspects as ex-Insp. Otache Egbe, ex-Insp. Abah Solomon, and ex-Sgt. James Mamah.
The arrests followed a meticulous operation that resulted in the rescue of the abducted driver and motor boy. Significant exhibits recovered during the investigation included two AK-47 rifles, 105 rounds of ammunition, and various security uniforms. The suspects have confessed to their crimes and are currently under investigation by the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen PMS, and the suspects will soon appear in court for prosecution.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasized the Police Force’s unwavering commitment to eradicating criminal elements, regardless of their previous affiliations. He reiterated the importance of collaboration with stakeholders in combating crime and issued a stern warning to individuals engaging in criminal activities, stressing that justice will be served.
