The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has expressed deep condemnation of the recent outbreak of violence in Amagba Community, Edo State, which led to the tragic death of Mr. Israel Ogbeide. Mr. Ogbeide’s body was discovered on October 19, 2024, with a fatal gunshot wound, an incident believed to be linked to a long-standing dispute between Amagba and the neighboring Obagie communities.

In response, Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered an extensive investigation to determine the events that led to Mr. Ogbeide’s death and to hold those responsible accountable. The Police have pledged to restore peace and security in the affected areas, emphasizing that justice will be served.

Contrary to circulating reports, the NPF clarified that its Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) and officers from the Edo State Command’s Department of Operations swiftly responded to rising tensions in the Oke Aroma area, which is associated with the ongoing conflict. Officers reported that, upon arrival, the area was deserted despite their patrol efforts. The Police clarified that their operations did not extend into Amagba or Obagie but maintained a presence in Oke Aroma to prevent further escalation.

The NPF stressed that its deployments are based solely on intelligence and operational needs, not external influence or pressure from groups or individuals. The Force encouraged residents to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and urged anyone with information regarding Mr. Ogbeide’s death to come forward to aid in bringing about justice and peace.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, reiterated the NPF’s commitment to restoring stability in Edo State, ensuring that safety and justice remain the Force’s priority in resolving the conflict.
