Nigeria Partners With Nokia To Boost Digital Skills, Implement 5G Technology

In a significant move to enhance Nigeria’s digital economy, Dr. Bosun Tijanni, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, along with Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nokia Solutions and Networks Nigeria. This partnership is set to pioneer advanced training in 4G and 5G technologies for Nigerian youths at the NCC’s Digital Parks.

The agreement, formalized earlier this week, outlines the establishment of a fully functional 5G/4G test lab by Nokia Nigeria, utilizing state-of-the-art radio and transmission technologies. This initiative aims to propel Nigeria to the forefront of the digital transformation in Africa, equipping a new generation with the skills necessary to thrive in the telecommunications sector.

Furthering this educational initiative, Nokia Nigeria will also launch an Entrepreneur Learning Programme, aimed at delivering vocational training to 200 selected students from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. This program is aligned with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy’s mission to drive digital literacy and cultivate a skilled workforce capable of supporting Nigeria’s evolving tech industry.

This strategic partnership not only promises to enhance the technical skills of Nigerian youth but also supports the broader vision of the Ministry to integrate digital capacity at a national level, ensuring that the workforce is prepared for the demands of the future telecommunications landscape.
