Nigeria Gears Up For Global Spotlight At World Gas Conference 2025

The Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) has confirmed its strategic participation in the 29th World Gas Conference (WGC2025), scheduled to hold in Beijing, China from May 19 to 23, 2025. The move positions Nigeria for global attention as it aims to showcase its gas sector achievements and investment opportunities.

During a media engagement in Lagos, NGA President, Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi, announced that the Association will host a dedicated Nigeria Pavilion at the prestigious triennial event organized by the International Gas Union (IGU). The Pavilion is expected to spotlight Nigeria’s strides under the “Decade of Gas” initiative and attract international interest in the country’s expanding gas value chain.

“This platform is not just symbolic. It is strategic. It signals Nigeria’s readiness to take its rightful place in the global gas ecosystem—not just as a resource-rich nation, but as a serious investment destination,” said Nwokedi.

The Nigeria Pavilion will serve as a hub for key stakeholders including government officials, industry leaders, investors, and international partners. It will promote dialogue on energy transition, showcase major projects, and highlight Nigeria’s efforts in building cleaner, job-creating, and economically transformative gas infrastructure.

Nwokedi noted that over $5 billion in new gas investments have been recorded in the past year, spanning infrastructure, floating LNG, gas processing, and domestic utilization. He also highlighted recent reforms by the Tinubu administration, such as the Executive Orders on Oil and Gas, the AKK pipeline, and a Decentralized Gas Distribution Framework to expand energy access.

The NGA also commended key regulatory bodies—the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA)—for their commitment to commercialization and revised domestic gas pricing frameworks.

Furthermore, the Association pledged continued support for methane reduction, compressed natural gas (CNG) safety, and other sustainability initiatives. It lauded NNPC Limited and its new Group CEO, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, for their leadership in transformative gas development.

With 209 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves and the potential to reach 600 TCF, Nigeria is banking on natural gas as a core pillar of its energy transition strategy.

“This is not just about gas. It is about jobs, industry, cleaner energy, and national transformation,” said Nwokedi. “Nigeria is ready. NGA is ready. WGC2025 is our global stage. Let’s take it—together.”
