The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is set to deepen its partnership with the National Defence College (NDC) to bolster national security and enhance trade facilitation.

The collaboration was reaffirmed by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, during a meeting held on June 5, 2024, at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja.

CGC Adeniyi expressed the NCS’s high regard for the National Defence College and its commitment to strengthening ties between the two institutions.

He lauded the efforts of Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, the Commandant of the NDC, in enhancing national security and acknowledged the college’s broader definition of security, encompassing aspects such as food security, climate security, and environmental security.

Highlighting the importance of knowledge exchange, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the value of diverse perspectives brought by students from different backgrounds. He cited the success of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC) in Gwagwalada, which has been instrumental in building the capacity of customs officers.

Additionally, he mentioned plans to establish a specialized university for Customs, drawing support from customs administrations within the sub-region and collaborating with established universities offering relevant courses.

CGC Adeniyi commended the NDC’s embrace of renewable energy technologies and expressed NCS’s readiness to adopt similar initiatives in its operations. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two institutions in implementing environmentally sustainable practices.

In response, Rear Admiral Olotu praised the CGC for his commitment to collaboration and described the partnership as mutually beneficial. He outlined the NDC’s goals, emphasizing the institution’s focus on environmentally sustainable technology to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths.

The meeting between the NCS and the NDC signifies a step forward in fostering cooperation between key institutions to address national security challenges and promote sustainable development.
