Nigeria Customs Service Launches Housing Initiative To Boost Personnel Welfare

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of its personnel nationwide through the initiation of a housing scheme.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the NCS housing scheme held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Kaduna at Gidan Iyali Estate, Millennium City, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the significance of the initiative in providing adequate housing for Customs officers and men across the federation.

“This ceremony is not the last episode of what we have planned,” stated the Comptroller-General. “There are projects similar to this in Kano, Asaba, Yola, Abuja, Enugu, and Uyo ready for flag-off. The national spread is aimed at providing officers and men of the service the opportunity to access and benefit from the laudable initiative that is not just pocket-friendly but also at convenient locations.”

Highlighting the necessity of such a program, CGC Adeniyi recalled a similar project initiated on December 18, 2023, in Ibadan, which aimed to provide 5000 houses targeting serving officers and men of the NCS. He emphasized that this initiative seeks to address the housing challenges faced by retired personnel, ensuring a dignified post-retirement life.

The CGC credited the initiative to President Tinubu’s supportive efforts to provide affordable housing for Nigerians and acknowledged the unwavering support of Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State towards the project’s success.

Encouraging officers to actively engage with the scheme, CGC Adeniyi assured them of the service’s commitment to managing the housing scheme effectively through an interface with Cooperative Mortgage Bank, facilitated by the service’s ICT under the salary section.

Addressing the gathering, George Anih, the Portfolio and Assets Manager of Family Homes, reiterated his firm’s commitment to providing affordable housing solutions for Nigerians and pledged to collaborate with the NCS to deliver 5000 houses for its officers and men.

Similarly, Musa Abubakar, Managing Director of Cooperative Mortgage Bank, affirmed his dedication to ensuring the successful completion of the housing project, further underscoring the collective effort towards improving the welfare of Nigeria Customs Service personnel.
