The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a three-day capacity-building workshop focused on data generation, analytics, and storage. The event, held at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC) in Gwagwalada, aims to enhance the service’s capabilities in modern customs operations through improved data handling.
The workshop was inaugurated by Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Malanta Yusuf, who represented the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi. In his opening remarks, ACG Yusuf underscored the vital role of data in strategic planning and operational efficiency. He highlighted that robust data generation and analytics are critical for effective decision-making, especially for an organization like Customs that is tasked with border management and trade facilitation.
“This workshop is designed to equip officers with comprehensive knowledge in various aspects of data management,” said Yusuf. He encouraged attendees to engage fully in the training, emphasizing that it would enhance their abilities to understand smuggling networks, identify high-risk threats, and gather intelligence.
“This practical learning experience aims to empower you in your roles, contributing to the overall success of the NCS,” Yusuf emphasized. He also stressed the importance of innovative solutions and integrating geospatial intelligence into current data analysis practices, urging officers to approach the workshop with enthusiasm.
ACG Yusuf expressed his gratitude to CGC Adeniyi, the workshop organizers, and participants for their contributions to the session. He expressed hope that the training would act as a catalyst for continuous learning and improvement within the NCS, fostering both professional development and operational efficiency.
The workshop reflects the NCS’s commitment to leveraging data and technology to enhance its operations and effectiveness in managing Nigeria’s borders and facilitating trade.
