The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced an extension of its verification exercise aimed at recovering import duties on privately owned aircraft, which were illegally imported into the country. The deadline for this exercise has been moved from Monday, October 14, 2024, to Thursday, November 14, 2024.
This extension is designed to allow operators of privately owned aircraft additional time to regularize their import duties. The NCS has stated its commitment to ensuring that all illegally imported aircraft comply with legal requirements, thereby fostering transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
In light of the new deadline, the NCS is urging aircraft operators to utilize this extended period to meet their obligations and avoid potential sanctions that could result from non-compliance once the deadline passes.
Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, emphasized the Service’s dedication to enforcing import duty laws and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s aviation sector. He also expressed gratitude for the cooperation and understanding of stakeholders involved in this crucial initiative.
As the deadline approaches, the NCS continues to work closely with operators to ensure compliance and uphold the regulations governing the aviation industry.
