The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) are set to strengthen their collaboration to boost security and revenue generation. This commitment was announced by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi during a meeting at the NCS headquarters in Abuja.
CGC Adeniyi emphasized the importance of synergy between NCS and FRSC, congratulating the newly appointed Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed. “We are thrilled to collaborate with agencies that provide good governance to the citizens through their different mandates,” Adeniyi said. He stressed that the safety and economic well-being of the public are paramount roles of the government, and all agencies should align with these purposes.
“In terms of vision, I see an alignment between NCS and the FRSC. It is key that we find a way to collaborate,” Adeniyi stated. He highlighted the successful memorandum of understanding between the two agencies, noting it has laid a strong foundation for further integration. “Working together, Nigerians should rest assured that the incident of stolen vehicles will be a thing of the past,” he assured.
Adeniyi also mentioned that the federal government has provided a window for the proper documentation of improperly imported cars, urging people to take advantage of this opportunity before stricter enforcement begins. He noted the ongoing efforts to confiscate substandard tyres due to their hazards.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the CGC for initiatives that have improved staff welfare, working conditions, and prompt benefit payments. He praised the consolidation of vehicle information in the National Vehicle Identification System (NVIS) Database, which has enhanced national security, revenue generation, and the fight against smuggling.
Mohammed highlighted the importance of enforcing restrictions on importing vehicles beyond their age limits, as older vehicles are often involved in severe accidents. “The relationship between NCS and FRSC will continually grow stronger,” he said, committing to support the CGC’s goals in trade modernization and security.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhanced security and revenue generation in Nigeria, reflecting the commitment of both agencies to work together for the country’s betterment.
