Nigeria Customs Mourns Former Deputy Comptroller-General Ibrahim Suleiman, Dies at 66

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is grieving the loss of one of its most distinguished retired officers, Deputy Comptroller-General Ibrahim Idris Suleiman, who passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2025, in Dubai after a brief illness. He was 66.

In a statement released on Monday, April 8, by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed deep sorrow over Suleiman’s demise, describing him as a seasoned officer who served with integrity and dedication.

Born on October 20, 1958, in Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State, Suleiman pursued his higher education at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (Second Class Upper Division) in July 1981. He completed the mandatory National Youth Service Corps in 1982 and joined the Nigeria Customs Service later that year as an Assistant Superintendent of Customs on August 4.

Throughout a distinguished career spanning 35 years, Suleiman steadily rose through the ranks, earning the appointment of Assistant Comptroller-General in 2011 and subsequently becoming Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in 2012. He held the position until his retirement on August 4, 2017.

“DCG Suleiman was widely respected for his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to national service,” CGC Adeniyi stated.

The Nigeria Customs Service joins his family, friends, and former colleagues in mourning his loss, praying that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus.
