In a historic step toward enhancing international cooperation, Nigeria and China have inaugurated the Luban-Mozi College at the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone. This institution is set to revolutionize vocational education and agricultural innovation, fostering talent development, boosting productivity, and solidifying bilateral ties.

The establishment of the college was formalized on December 1, 2024, through agreements signed between the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Weifang Vocational College in China, Beijing World Skills Ascending Youth Education Technology, and the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone Management Company. These agreements include a Cooperative Construction Agreement and a Memorandum of Cooperation focusing on agricultural equipment, machinery, and pesticide production.

The initiative is part of the China-Nigeria Industry-Education Consortium, aimed at bridging skill gaps in Nigeria’s workforce, particularly in agriculture. It also seeks to enhance the capacity of enterprises operating within the Free Trade Zone (FTZ).

Top Agriculture Technology FZE, a leading investor in the project, will provide financial support for research and product development. This backing is expected to drive innovation in agricultural practices, creating a model for integrating vocational education and industry. The project aligns with the strategic goals of the Joint Statement on Establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Building a High-Level China-Nigeria Community of Shared Future, issued earlier this year.

Deputy General Manager of the Free Trade Zone’s Management Company, Liu Zhigang, expressed optimism about the collaboration. Liu emphasized that the initiative would develop a skilled workforce proficient in Chinese and equipped with professional expertise to meet the demands of Chinese enterprises within the zone.

The college will also support joint research efforts, product commercialization, and cultural and educational exchanges between the two nations.

Luban-Mozi College is poised to become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s agricultural and vocational education sectors. It represents a key milestone in bilateral relations, paving the way for sustainable growth and mutual prosperity.
