In a bid to strengthen the protection of vulnerable groups in Lagos State, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Lagos State Chapter, has entered into a partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command.
The collaboration was formalized during a courtesy visit by the State Coordinator of the NHRC, Mr. Lucas Koyejo, to the Lagos State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, 8th May 2025, centered on mutual efforts to enhance the protection of the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and individuals living with HIV, tuberculosis, and other health challenges.
Mr. Koyejo emphasized the importance of preventing the discrimination and criminalization of vulnerable populations, noting that cooperation between human rights bodies and security agencies is essential in fostering an inclusive and just society.
In response, Commandant Keshinro commended the NHRC for initiating the engagement, describing it as a strategic move to consolidate efforts in the protection of human rights. He reiterated the Corps’ commitment to gender sensitivity in its interactions with the public, while also highlighting ongoing collaborations with other security agencies to ensure seamless and efficient investigations.
The two agencies agreed to work together in areas such as training, advocacy, and enforcement mechanisms aimed at promoting and defending the rights of the most vulnerable segments of society.
The partnership marks a significant step towards a coordinated and rights-based approach to security and social protection in Lagos State.
