In a recent leadership transition at the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service in Owerri, Comptroller Michael Ugbagu has officially taken office as the 28th Comptroller. The ceremony, held on Friday, was marked by pledges of robust enforcement and calls for continued public collaboration.
Comptroller Ugbagu steps into the role following the tenure of Comptroller Kayode Kolade, who left after making significant operational achievements, including seizures worth over N7 billion. Ugbagu, in his inaugural address, expressed gratitude to Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and his management team for entrusting him with the leadership of FOU Zone C.
Highlighting his strategy, Comptroller Ugbagu emphasized strict adherence to import and export guidelines, leveraging intelligence and technology to strengthen customs operations. “We will ensure a watertight security against smuggling activities across the zone,” Ugbagu stated, stressing the unattractiveness of smuggling, duty evasion, and warehousing of smuggled goods under his watch.
Ugbagu has pledged to uphold the high standards set by his predecessors and ensure compliance with established customs protocols. He appealed to the media and public for their support and cooperation to tackle the challenges ahead and fulfill the unit’s mandate effectively.
