Comptroller JE Edelduok has officially assumed her role as the new Customs Area Controller at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command, following a handover ceremony held on May 31, 2024. She succeeds Acting Assistant Comptroller General MM Tilley-Gyado, who is now advancing to a new position.

During the ceremony, Acting ACG Tilley-Gyado commended Comptroller Edelduok, expressing confidence in her ability to lead the command towards continued success. Tilley-Gyado highlighted the command’s notable achievements under her tenure, citing significant revenue growth and operational enhancements. “From January to May 2024, we generated ₦36.6 billion, a remarkable 55% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when we collected ₦16 billion,” she stated.

She also celebrated the transformation of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal from a basic export transit hub into an Export Processing Terminal (EPT), marking a pivotal shift in the terminal’s functionality and capacity.

Tilley-Gyado expressed her gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs and the management team for their support and acknowledged the cooperative efforts of stakeholders and partner agencies that facilitated these successes. She urged the command’s staff and partners to extend their support to the new Controller, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and continuity.

In her inaugural address, Comptroller JE Edelduok expressed her commitment to building on the accomplishments of her predecessor and aligning with the Customs Service’s core objectives of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.

“In Customs, revenue is our number one key performance index [KPI],” she remarked. “I urge everyone to join hands with me in taking our revenue generation to the next level.”

Edelduok also highlighted her intention to foster a strong working relationship with stakeholders and maintain an open-door policy, encouraging suggestions and feedback to further enhance the command’s operations. She thanked the Comptroller General and the management team for the opportunity to lead, vowing to serve with dedication and humility.

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal is a crucial part of Nigeria’s customs operations, playing a significant role in the country’s import and export activities. The continued progress at the terminal is essential for supporting Nigeria’s economic growth and enhancing its trade capabilities.
