Marwa made this statement while commissioning an operational facility built for the NDLEA by the British government.

Speaking in Lagos on Monday, April 15th, 2024, Marwa emphasized Nigeria’s unwavering stance against drug-related criminal activities, highlighting the seizure of over 7,561 tonnes of illicit substances over the past 38 months. He underscored the message sent to drug cartels and their kingpins that Nigeria will not tolerate such activities.

Marwa expressed gratitude to the British government for its generous support in providing the operational facility, which he noted would enhance the NDLEA’s capacity to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria. The facility, a symbol of the enduring partnership between Nigeria and the UK, is hailed as a vital hub for data analysis and strategic planning in the fight against drug trafficking networks.

Highlighting the agency’s achievements, Marwa credited the NDLEA’s transformation to collaborations with partners like the UK. He emphasized significant milestones, including arrests, convictions, and seizures, which demonstrate the agency’s commitment to accountability and deterrence in the fight against drug-related crimes.

While acknowledging the contributions of British officials, Marwa called for the strengthening of partnerships between Nigeria and the UK to intensify efforts against drug trafficking and organized crime. He emphasized the ongoing battle against illicit drugs, urging continued dedication and determination.

In response, British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Jonny Baxter, assured of continued support for the NDLEA and Nigeria in combating the global issue of drug trafficking. Baxter reaffirmed the UK government’s commitment to collaboration and cooperation with the NDLEA, expressing pride in working together to address the challenges posed by the illicit drug trade.
