The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) vehemently denounces the brutal attack that resulted in the tragic loss of Customs Assistant II Auwal Haruna at the Gamji Makaho checkpoint in the Dankama area of Katsina State on April 17, 2024. In a firm stance against such heinous acts of violence towards its officers and men, the NCS reiterates its unwavering commitment to justice and the security of its personnel.

Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, extends heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of CA II Auwal Haruna. He underscores the NCS’s relentless efforts, in collaboration with other security agencies, to apprehend the perpetrators of this reprehensible act and ensure they face the full force of the law.

“Violence against our officers is utterly unacceptable,” asserts the CGC. “We will pursue every avenue to bring those responsible to justice. The safety of our personnel and the security of our borders remain paramount. We are committed to working with traditional rulers, government bodies, and sister agencies to combat this heinous crime against our personnel.”

Under the steadfast leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS reaffirms its unwavering dedication to combating smuggling and other cross-border crimes. The Service remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the law and safeguard the interests of the Nigerian people.

Intelligence gathered suggests that certain unpatriotic individuals within communities are sheltering suspected accomplices involved in this heinous crime. The NCS urges these individuals to prioritize patriotism by aligning with the law and abstaining from harboring criminal elements. Collaboration with law enforcement agencies is paramount in rooting out criminality and ensuring justice prevails for all.

The NCS calls upon the public to unite in the fight against these brazen criminals. Vigilance is key, and the public is urged to report any suspicious activities of these daredevil smugglers to the nearest customs formation. Together, we can create a safer environment for our officers and a more secure nation for all.
