The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially inaugurated a Centre of Excellence in Abuja, aimed at enhancing technical and vocational skills to support Nigeria’s digital economy.
The launch event, held last week, saw the Hon. Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, alongside key stakeholders, unveil the new facility powered by Nokia. The Centre of Excellence is designed to serve as a pivotal training ground for youths with engineering and technical backgrounds who aspire to build careers in telecommunications.
The centre will offer specialized training in advanced radio technologies, including 5G, and is set to benefit 200 youths from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones through the Omnia Youth Entrepreneurship Program. This initiative represents a significant step toward developing a new generation of radio engineers in the country.
The collaboration with Nokia is expected to provide high-quality training and foster a creative environment where these young engineers can experiment and explore innovative solutions, ultimately contributing to the growth of the telecommunications industry.
Special recognition was given to Dr. Bosun Tijani for his visionary leadership that made this partnership possible, and appreciation was also extended to Nokia for their support. The Centre of Excellence is anticipated to be a game-changer in the development of Nigeria’s technical workforce.
The NCC expressed enthusiasm about the future opportunities that this collaboration will bring and looks forward to the positive impact it will have on the industry.
