NCC Lauds Nigeria’s Achievements At World Radio Communications Conference 2023


The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) celebrates Nigeria’s notable accomplishments at the ongoing International Telecommunications Union (ITU)’s World Radio Communications (WRC) Conference 2023, hosted in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The country secured significant leadership roles and memberships for its delegates, marking a momentous stride in the global telecommunications landscape.

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, expressed elation at Nigeria’s triumphs during the WRC 2023 sessions. He proudly announced the election of key Nigerian figures into prominent positions within the ITU, underscoring their influence on the global radiocommunication stage.

Engineer Abraham Oshadami, Director of Spectrum Administration at NCC, secured the Vice Chairman position of the ITU’s Radiocommunication Advisory Group (RAG), while Dr. Lasisi Salami Lawal, Acting General Manager and Project Manager at the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, was elected Vice Chairman of the ITU-R Study Group Four (Satellite Services). Additionally, other members of the NCC delegation were appointed into crucial Working Groups at WRC 2023.

Dr. Maida commended Dr. Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, for his unwavering guidance and support to the Nigerian delegation throughout the conference, highlighting the minister’s pivotal role in steering Nigeria’s participation.

The WRC Conference serves as a platform for global deliberations aimed at allocating and managing the world’s finite spectrum resources, essential for our everyday technologies.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Dr. Maida emphasized the pivotal roles assumed by the Nigerian delegates, foreseeing their contributions as elevating Nigeria’s stature in the global telecom domain. He stressed the importance of aligning Nigeria’s objectives with global standards, especially in advancing the National Broadband Plan.

“I am thrilled by the election of Engr. Oshadami and Dr. Lawal as Vice Chairs of these pivotal study groups. It’s a testament to the expertise within NCC and NigComSat, setting the stage for us to align with global best practices,” remarked Dr. Maida.

He urged the newly elected leaders to meet the high expectations placed on them by the global radiocommunication community while reflecting on the Minister’s presence as a significant booster for the delegation, symbolizing the Federal Government’s commitment to the conference.

Dr. Maida utilized the conference to engage with key figures in the global telecom industry, holding impactful meetings with prominent leaders at the ITU and African Telecommunications Union. These discussions explored potential collaborations and avenues to increase Nigerian participation in these international unions.
