On August 2, 2022, while on patrol around 10 nautical miles (NM) northeast of Dangote Quay, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PROSPERITY spotted a man drifting at sea in a yellow 20-liter gallon.

This was stated in a press release given to Hybrid Online News Nigeria by Commodore AO Ayo-Vaughan, the Naval Director of Information.

The ship therefore changed course in the direction of the man’s location, and they were able to successfully recover him.

The man who had been saved afterwards admitted that there was a second party involved. As a result, the crew moved on to the second man’s location and successfully collected him as well.

Further research found that the men who had been rescued were Ghanaian fisherman who lived in Takwa Bay, Lagos. They went fishing on Sunday, July 31, 2022, but a boat accident occurred around ten o’clock that same day.

Sadly, two of them were reported to have drowned before NNS PROSPERITY was able to save the other two.

The Nigerian Navy expresses its continued commitment to safeguarding the security and safety of all seafarers operating inside Nigeria’s maritime domain.
