In a decisive operation, the Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, commanded by Commodore Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga, has intercepted a significant attempt to smuggle suspected petroleum products. Commander Oguntuga revealed that the Quick Response Team, during routine patrols guided by the Falcon Eye Alignment, the State-of-the-Art Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, successfully halted a large blue fibre boat in the vicinity of Liverpool on the early hours of November 17, 2023.
The vessel was discovered to be transporting petroleum products, suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), stored in numerous drums and jerricans.
Upon the Navy’s approach, the perpetrators hastily fled the scene, abandoning the boat and its illicit cargo. The Quick Response Team secured the vessel and the seized items, which included the suspected petroleum products and a pumping machine. These were safely transported back to the base for further investigation and necessary actions.
This intervention underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Navy, operating under the guidance of Vice Admiral EI Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff. The Navy remains resolute in safeguarding the nation’s resources and maritime domain, crucial for sustaining economic prosperity.
