Troops of Naval Outpost Onitsha has rescued the two kidnapped US embassy staffs in the early hours of Friday, May 19.
According to a reliable source, the victims were rescued after trools of Naval Outpost Onitsha conducted an offensive operation.
The victims were kidnapped during an attack on the convoy of the US Embassy by suspected terrorist of the Independent People of Biafra group at Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State on Tuesday 16 May 2023.
The rescued victims were identified as Mr Jefferson Obayuwana and Mr Monday Auwuviekaye both of whom are 37 and 51 years old respectively.
“Upon further preliminary investigations, the rescued embassy staff stated that both of them were kidnapped, blindfolded and taken to different locations in the bush where they spent about 3 days.
“They also stated that their belongings were taken away by the terrorists.” the source said.
After giving them medical care, the survivors were subsequently handed over to the Commissioner of Police Anambra State command by the Commanding Officer Naval Outpost Onitsha Navy Captain GB Osuobeni in company of other staffs of the US Embassy.
